As I entered this new year, I decided I needed a change, so I changed my current hair and skincare routine. The year 2025 is the year I want all of us to speak into existence each hair and skincare goal we set. Last year if you slacked off at any point, this year we are going to work on that downfall. I know making sure that you take care of yourself can seem hard. Your day-to-day is probably busy, especially if you are a parent and/or work a full-time job. The day just tends to slip away, and we slack in certain areas. Well, this year we are not doing that. Compromising on the health of my hair and skin is a NO for me. So, below are my top goals for my hair and skincare that I want to focus on.

“My Hair Goal”

  1. Try new natural styles and create a new routine that fits my new busy schedule.

“My Skincare Goal”

  1. Find products that focus on my dry areas and leave a glow.

Your goals may be like mine or different, but either way, we are going to create a routine to help achieve our new goals. Your routine does not have to be overly complicated, but it does need to focus on your end goal.

With us finally getting winter weather, we are going to create winter-friendly goals. Yes! Your routines should change with the seasons. And yes, for both your hair and skin. Yes, I am walking this journey with you so let us get started!

Evaluate Current Routine

To get where we are going, we must know where we are starting. Unfortunately, we can’t take our current routines with us on this journey because with the weather change comes new problems that need to be addressed. For me, it’s the fact that my skin gets extremely dry during this time, and my hair tends to feel more on the brittle side. Below is a list of tips I am going to take into consideration.

  1. Stay Hydrated- keeping your hair and skin hydrated should be a focus. The winter weather can cause your skin to be drier and irritated, for hair, you can experience more frizz and split ends. Which makes it important to invest in thick moisturizers. Think of body butter and a hair mask. Most importantly drink tons of water.

  1. Wearing Protective Styles- During the wintertime I have a bad habit of wanting to straighten my hair all the time (and there is nothing wrong with that, make sure you are using heat protectant). Working in this industry has taught me that incorporating protective styles more often is good for your hair.

  1. Retaining Moisture—With this cold, dry weather comes more frizz and, in my case, brittle hair. It always seems like if you bend my hair, it will snap. However, this year, I want to make sure that I am keeping the largest amount of moisture, so I want to buy products that will allow this. This is on my to-do list.

Let’s Plan it Out and Track Progress!

Next, you want to create a step-by-step plan from how often you are going to wash your hair to what products you want to try out. When in this stage please research your products. Look at the ingredients, you want to make sure that there is nothing in them that will make anything worse. We want our hair happy and healthy so buying the right products is key.

I suggest that you start a beauty journal. You want to record what products your hair likes and what products your hair doesn’t like. I would even go as far as taking pictures and placing them in your journal. This will be your inspiration to keep going and to hit those goals. It’s also to visually track your progress. Keeping a journal and taking pictures will help you to find patterns and make necessary informed adjustments.

Stay consistent and patient. Nothing is going to happen overnight, and I know there are people out there who will say differently, but nothing happens overnight. Making sure you stay on top of your routine is a key factor. If you want to hit those goals by summer, then you can’t procrastinate. So, stay focused, make any adjustments as needed, and be patient with the process.

Celebrate Small Wins

You must be your biggest supporter. I had to learn this the hard way. When you achieve even an ounce of a win celebrate it. It is okay to acknowledge your progress along the way. It’s a way to stay motivated and positive. Rewarding yourself by having a simple spa day, going on a trip, or just hanging out with friends, is not just a way to reward yourself, but to highlight your progress. Ignite the flame in the next person by showing off how far you have come, maybe they will be motivated to take whatever necessary leaps they need to.

At the end of the day, our focus should be on the fact that we started this journey and created this routine to see results. Once you see those results you must enjoy the accomplishments!
