So, you decided that you wanted to get your cosmetology license and you are a little lost on which school to go to, how much it might cost you, and even how long you will have to be in school. Well, I am going to answer all these questions honestly and hopefully help a ton of you out. So, let's get to it.
1. Finding the perfect Cosmetology program for you.
There are a ton of different beauty schools that you can go too. They range from really known names like Paul Mitchell, to the smallest names in the small towns like Great Plains Technology Center -Frederick Campus that I attended. The price for these two schools is ridiculously different yet you learn the same things. So, the first thing about finding the perfect program for you is to research what's close to you. Keep in mind that there will be a price difference as well as how long the program will be (this will be discussed later on in the post). I would advise you to not only research, but to visit each program and ask to sit in a class if they will allow it. Your main focus should be that not only is the price a good fit for your budget, but also that you feel comfortable.
Here is a list of programs/schools located in Oklahoma (this list does not represent all the schools located in OK. Always do your own research to see which school/program is closest to you!):

2. What's the Cost?
As I stated earlier the cost of cosmetology school/program can range in pricing. I have talked to programs that charge $2 (two dollars) per credit hour and I have talked to some that charges by location in my opinion. The school I attended charge by credit hour, and they also offer financial aid to those who qualified, so total I spent no more than $4000 (four-thousand dollars) with my books and kit included.
Now, when I searched Paul Mitchell's school website and looked at the programs, I came across their price for tuition, supplies, and kit. The grand total was almost $30,000 (thirty-thousand dollars)! The difference in the 2 (two) schools is.... you guessed it $26,000 (twenty-six thousand dollars)! Now I don't know about you, but I can think of a few things I could do with $26,000 (twenty-six thousand dollars). Now their website did state that they offer several financial aid help and to contact them. So, that's always great but you also have to remember financial aid and even scholarships only pay so much.
Just remember whatever school/program you choose to attend make sure that your budget allows it. Even if the school offers financial help!
3. How long is this going to take me?
This is the million-dollar question because if you are a mom/dad or work a full-time job or both you don't want to be in school for a long period of time, especially if you do not have a great support system to start with. So, because I was in this same situation I figured I could help out. For adults in Oklahoma, you will need to complete a total of 1,500 (one thousand five hundred) hours. For high school students you will need to complete a total of 1,000 (one thousand) hours. *High school students talk to your school counselor; they will be able to tell you more on if your school offers this as an elective that you can take.
Each school has their school time periods. Let me break it down. The school I attended only had 1 (one) teacher that taught this program and because she takes both adult students and high school students, the school schedule the program to match the high school schedule. So, we did not have class on days that the local high school was out. This in turn makes the program longer and we were in school a total equivalent to 2 (two) high school years. The schools with the pricey price tag offer classes that last only 6 (six) to 8 (eight) months. *Most schools offer full or part-time for adult students, however, just remember that if you decide to go part-time it will take longer to complete the program. This should also be considered in your decision.
If you do not reside in Oklahoma check with your State Board of Cosmetology to see how many hours, you would need to complete.
