Sha'va Porter

Our next shoutout goes to another person who I admire in this industry. She is my mentor and second biggest supporter!

I would like to introduce everyone Sha'Va Porter. She is the owner of CP Beauty Salon, author of Money Makeover for Beauty Entrepreneurs: Accounting Wisdom for Salon Success, and she also is receiving her bachelor's degree to become a CPA.

Sha'Va has been in the beauty industry for 23 years and loves to share her knowledge of the ins and outs that comes with working in this industry. She got into this industry because when she was younger her God Mother used to do her hair and it didn't always come out the way she wanted it to. So, she would then go home, take down and redo her own hair the best way she could. As she got older, she eventually had her first child, and she would then move to California. In Cali she would get compliments about her hair and was even told she should look into getting a career in hair. Which she did. She went to Braided Up in San Jose, California and was hired on the spot by the owner. Although she would be very hardheaded at times, she also learned so much and the owner would become her mentor and eventually teach her everything she knows about the business and braiding.

Fast forward some years and she eventually was able to open her own salon called CP Beauty Salon. During her time as a salon owner, she had some trials and errors occur that played a part in her financial decisions. So, she wrote Money Makeover for Beauty Entrepreneurs: Accounting Wisdom for Salon Success. This book started out as a roadmap to help her with the struggles she had with her own salon finances and eventually she realized that this wisdom needed to be shared with the masses. Her book touches base on many topics such as: concrete foundations for maintaining your books, benefits, tax cuts from the IRS, P&L balance sheet, and budget cash flow to receive loans for your business. It's about what you can do to make money, how to set up hourly and commission pay, creating a roadmap to success, and being a leader, as well as paying bills.

(Check back in either the product review or Stylist2Stylist blog section to get my opinion of her book once I am done reading it.)

Sha'Va had some great advice that she shared while we conducted this interview. The main one was "Don't burn yourself out! Stay motivated and take time for you. Make that money but don't let the money run you and enjoy life."

She can be contacted via email at SHAVAPORTER@CPBEAUTYSALON.COM and she conducts the services listed below:

Tax prep and planning to scale your business, understand tax write-offs, Buying assets for the business, and Property loans.

If you have any questions on starting your business or any financial help that you might need if you already have your business, please reach out to her.  Also, her book can be ordered on Amazon, you can get it either in paperback form or for your Kindle. However, you decide to purchase her book, just make the purchase!

I would like to take the time to thank Sha'Va for sitting down with me and allowing me to conduct this interview with her. She was amazing and very inspiring. I loved being able to speak with her about her business ventures because you can hear the excitement in her voice. Her wanting to spread her knowledge to the next generation of beauty professionals, within itself is enough to make me keep going, learning and also spreading my knowledge. So, THANK YOU SHA'VA and I wish you well on all your endeavors because I know this is just the beginning.

As always if you or someone you know has a shoutout that they feel needs to be heard please contact me. Just go to the contact page and send me an email about the person and I will reach out to them or you within 48 hours of receiving the email. Thank you and stay tuned for our next Featured Stylist.

XOXO,

Porscha 'Kiara-Teraz'
